The Assistant Inspector general of police zone 16 Headquarters, Yenagoa, AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola, psc, today graciously received a distinguished delegation from the Institute of Marine Studies (IMS), Niger Delta University (NDU), alongside members of the organizing committee for the forthcoming international conference and exhibition on marine and blue economy (IMABEC 2025).
According to a statement issued by the zone 16 Police public relations officer, SP Gunn Ewhoborwo Emonena, the visiting team was led by Capt. Dr. Charles A. N. Johnson (Rtd), director of the Institute of Marine Studies.
The courtesy visit was primarily aimed at exploring areas of collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Institute, particularly as preparations intensify for IMABEC 2025, scheduled to take place from 18th to 20th November 2025 at the conference centre, golden tulip hotels and resorts, government house, Onopa, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
In his address, Capt. Dr. Johnson emphasized that the visit was an essential step towards building a strong and mutually beneficial partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.
He noted that given the scale and international nature of the upcoming event, security coordination and institutional cooperation would be indispensable to its overall success. Dr. Johnson commended the Police for their consistent role in safeguarding lives, property, and national assets, highlighting that effective policing is crucial to the growth of the emerging blue economy in the Niger Delta region.
Responding, AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola warmly appreciated the delegation for their thoughtful initiative and for acknowledging the strategic role of the police in advancing national development.
He assured the visiting team of zone 16’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment conducive to the successful hosting of IMABEC 2025. AIG Adenola further pledged that the Police would provide comprehensive security support before, during, and after the event, underscoring the force’s dedication to fostering inter institutional collaboration for sustainable national progress.
The high point of the visit included the signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of a commemorative plaque to the AIG, and a group photograph to commemorate the memorable occasion.
