An advocacy group Women Organized Mentorship and Advocacy Network (WOMAN), has urged parents and the public to be vigilant about their children’s well-being, especially regarding sexual harassment.
During a visit to Zarama Epie Health Care in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, WOMAN’s Executive Director, Lady Eunice Nnachi, highlighted the importance of educating children to recognize and report inappropriate advances or touching.
She stressed that parents must actively guide and protect their children both at home and in public spaces.
Mrs. Elizabeth Joseph, also of WOMAN, advised parents to engage in regular conversations with their children, be attentive to changes in behavior, and be mindful of how their daughters dress, noting that revealing clothing could attract unwanted attention. She emphasized teaching children to report any inappropriate contact.
Miss Blessing Ewere, Program officer voice of the Ijaw girl child, added that sexual harassment can affect both boys and girls.
She further, called on parents to foster open communication and always listen to their children, as this is key to prevention.
