Navy give free medical services to more than 1,000 in residents, in Bayelsa

Koluama II (Bayelsa) Dec. 5, 2024The Nigerian Navy Outpost Koluama, has given free medical services to over 1,000 residents of Koluama II Community, in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa, on Thursday.

Cdr Stephen Agwai, Commanding Officer Naval Outpost Koluama II, said during the exercise in Koluama II, that the essence was to promote cooperation with the host community.

Our reporter gathered that they are being provided with free medical checkup, consultation, health education, distribution of insecticide treated nets, free medication, amongst others.

He said that the exercise will impact positivity on the community and further help in reducing the health challenges of the indigenes.

The Commanding Officer, said that the outreach was part of the navy’s corporate social responsibility to the people, as a host community.

According to him, today to extend a helping hand to our fellow citizens who have accommodated the NN to ensure it achieves her constitutional role.

“As we are all aware, health is wealth and a person who has good physical health is likely to have bodily functions with good working abilities.

“We must bear in minds that regular exercise, balanced nutrition and adequate rest all contribute to good health.

“Therefore, it is our responsibilities as parents, leaders, guardians and administrators to make deliberate efforts in living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to show examples to our people.

“So, the Nigerian Navy and indeed NOP KOLUAMA II, we recognize the pivotal role that health plays in national development and wellbeing.

“Through initiatives like today’s Medical Rhapsody, we aim to promote health awareness and foster partnerships with local healthcare providers for peaceful coexistence.

“Through our non-kinetic line of operations and civil-military relations, the Nigerian Navy through the initiative of the Chief of Naval Staff and indeed NOP KOLUAMA II have come here today with a mission to contribute to your medical wellbeing and support your healthy living.

“We bring with us healthcare services such as free medical consultations, medications, insecticide treated mosquito nets and examination of vital signs.

“But our mission extends beyond the tangible. Today, we will also share with our you all, important tips to healthy living and benefits of regular exercises and balanced nutrition to our health and general wellbeing,” he said.

On his part, Chief Naigu Nitabi, Chairman Community Development Committee Koluama I community, commended the Nigerian Navy for the free medical services brought to their community.

According to him, the Nigerian Navy has been very kind to them from the onset and they are appreciating the Navy for their kind gesture and seeing the health need of the people.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Eunice Timipa, commented the Navy for choosing their community for the free medical services.

She said that he was tested and administer free medication, as he said that he never knew he has high blood pressure and low sugar level.
