In a strong-worded statement, security agencies have been urged to arrest and prosecute the owners and their accomplices.
Ebenco Global Link Limited yard owned by one EBENEZER OLUWAGBEMIGA happens to be one of the biggest illegal refining depots in the country and it is used by some of the most influential Nigerians for their nefarious bunkering activities.
Since this depot was uncovered no arrests or prosecution has been made.
Information at our disposal suggests that the powers behind this operation are exercising their influence in the corridors of power to ensure that nothing is done about this matter.
We can all recollect what happened when vessels linked to the Indian operator Sterling Global were nabbed with stolen products.
That matter died a natural death and the Indians are still operating with impunity.
The call comes after the MV TREASURE HUB and Ebenco Global Link Limited were caught conducting cargo operations in their yard on July 17, 2023.
The statement, which was issued by a coalition of civil society organizations led by Its convener, Comrade Osborne Otobo, said that the security agencies must “ensure that these individuals or groups face the law no matter how highly placed or connected they are.”
“They can never be bigger than Nigeria,” the statement said.
The coalition also called on the public to come forward with any information they have about the activities of the MV TREASURE HUB or the Ebenco Global Link Limited yard.
“Together, we can help to stop illegal crude oil and gas activities in Nigeria,” the statement said.
The illegal crude oil trade is a major problem in Nigeria, costing the country billions of dollars in lost revenue each year.
It also contributes to environmental damage and pollution.
The security agencies have made some progress in cracking down on the illegal crude oil trade, but more needs to be done.
The coalition’s statement is a reminder that the fight against illegal crude oil is not over.
