IWD2022: NYP Speaker Urges Stakeholders to Address Under-representation of women in leadership

Today, we celebrate the extraordinary people that shape our world and give meaning to our existence. Undeniably, being a woman typifies courage, strength, sacrifice, and service.

The theme for this year’s commemoration #BreakTheBias is no doubt instructive as it reiterates the need to break bias against women, eliminate stereotypes, fight age-long inequality in all spaces, especially leadership and public life.

At this juncture in Nigeria’s political trajectory, now is the best time to address the under-representation of women in leadership and adopt affirmative action in the political system. Again, I urge both chambers of the National Assembly to reconsider their stand on the rejected gender bills.

As we continue to smash barriers to inspire a new sense of direction for the womenfolk, we must remain firm and stronger than ever in the agitation for an all-inclusive society that works for every gender.

Happy International Women’s Day to women all over the world.
